An introduction to graphic expression.
Every month, a different theme will be proposed, and participants will be encouraged to create something that corresponds to the theme. Themes may include subjects, supports, techniques and other things. Participants are invited to bring their own material if they have it, though some will be available for the session. Participants are not required to follow the theme and may work on their own pictures if they prefer to do so.
Coming Up...
2 October 2026 - Buildings/Houses
A home, a cottage, a skyscraper, the Taj Mahal, a garden shed, the temple of Petra... whatever suits your fancy.
Past Events
4 September 2026 - Autumn Colours
Autumn colours are associated with harvest, warmth, and comfort, making them popular in fashion, interior design, and seasonal decorations. They reflect the natural transition of the season, from vibrant foliage to earthy tones, and are often used to create a cosy, inviting atmosphere.
No photographs of everybody's work, so I could only include my own variations on a picture this time... Two mushrooms, one in watercolours and the other in oil paint.

7 August 2026 - Great Painters
Being inspired by painters we admire...

5 June 2026 - Try Something New

Welcoming some u3a members who do not consider themselves artists, we tried different things and helped one another discover different ways to do things.

1 May 2026 - Outdoors
Making the best of sunny and warm weather, we had an outside sketching and painting session outside Chatteris Church of St Peter & Paul.
It is always nice to be able to set up shop outside and work from reality rather than from pictures or paintings.

3 April 2026 - Movement

Today was about movement... How do you paint or draw movement?
Participants had tried to represent movement in different media and styles, mostly based on the looped film of a ballet dancer.
As the dancer went through the movements, leaping, spinning, crawling... we tried to represent the movement they inspired rather than drawing the dancer directly.
Of course, as always, participants were allowed to work on their own topic if they preferred.

6 March 2026 - the KECC

Today, we were all given a section of a photograph of the KECC to reproduce in whatever style or medium preferred.
The resulting collage of the five pictures demonstrated the differences in styles and preferences of the attendees.

6 Feb 2026 - Still Life Montage

2 Jan 2026 - Winter Scenes

5 Dec 2025 - Christmas cards

7 Nov 2025 - Autumn colours in the medium of your choice
Pumpkins, carrots, leaves and more...
